Why My Shoulder Won’t Move

View from Dr. Haung’s office.

Osteophyte vs. Bone Tumor? Today, I had an appointment with Dr. Adrian Haung, a surgeon with a fancy office on Broadway, complete with a great view. Before meeting him, I was first seen by a friendly Fellow who introduced himself as Eric. Frankly they were both great!

We went through my symptoms. I lack typical arthritis symptoms. No pain. No swelling. No ongoing stiffness. Yet, my shoulder just won’t move. I can’t reach overhead, and I can’t get my arm behind my back. It’s stuck.

The imaging points to two possible culprits:
🔹 An osteophyte (bone spur). A bony overgrowth that can form from joint wear and tear. If it’s in the wrong place, it can act like a mechanical block. But, I don’t have much arthritis in my shoulders, I was told.
🔹 A benign bone tumor blocking mobility. It could have been growing for years. I’ve never had decent mobility in my shoulders.

The next step is a CT scan and MRI to get a closer look and see if a treatment plan can be hatched.

In the meantime, I need to carryon honing in on the diet and exercise front. Full stop. It will be a long road to answers still. Off to teach a Fitsters class at the gym.
